Organization Description
Long Island Lighting Company (LILCO) was a public utility company in the United States that provided electricity to customers on Long Island, New York. LILCO became infamous for its mishandling of the Shoreham Nuclear Power Plant project, which led to massive cost overruns and ultimately the plant's closure before it ever produced any commercial electricity. The company was eventually restructured and acquired by the Long Island Power Authority in the late 1990s, bringing an end to its troubled history.
